It's difficult to imagine the psychological impact of an elevated PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test result. To help support our members, we now offer the choice of a prostate cancer referral service where members can access a consultant urologist quickly for diagnostics.

• If you are aged 40+ and have received an elevated PSA blood test, simply call your Cigna Helpline to self-refer. If appropriate, you’ll be transferred to ProstateHealth UK and referred to a consultant urologist. The referral is typically within 5 working days of your call to Cigna.
• At your appointment, as appropriate, you’ll have the appropriate diagnostics including multiparametric MRI (mpMRI). This helps determine if you might need a prostate biopsy and to target the biopsy to the exact location. There is strong clinical evidence that this will reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies.
• Should you have an elevated PSA but normal mpMRI, you could be further investigated as part of a follow up programme.
• If onward referral to a specialist is required remember to always call Cigna for pre-authorisation first.
